MARSHFIELD, WI (WSAU) -  Shortly after the Parkland, Florida school shooting, Marshfield's Fire and Rescue Department started a fundraising campaign to put life-saving 'Stop the Bleed' kits in every school.  And now, Chief Scott Owen says, the campaign's met it's goal and training with the kits is underway.

"Our initial goal was $16,000, and we've actually exceeded that goal.  And with a specific number of kits for each school, training has started," Owen explained.  "We're getting them into the schools as soon as we can. Training's ongoing, and so far it's been well received by the teachers and staff that we've trained."

The Marshfield PD have also been trained with the kits Owen said.  "We've done some public training with the Marshfield Police Department so they understand what the kits are, and things that they can do to minimize bleeding in the event that they're involved."

Owen added that it's often ordinary citizens who are the first on-site to 'stop the bleed,' until first responders arrive at an emergency.
